Hello everyone!

Yes, yes I am still breathing…

One year passes very quickly and here is the report of two days of fly-fishing in Bled.

Like always, with my friend Martin, the trip started on the upper part of Radovna river. The water level was lower than in the last two years, but we still had a great day. We fished upwards with different dry flies, but had most success with caddis flies tied with deer fur on hook 10-12#.

We had a curious situation when Martin accidentally caught a grass snake (Natrix natrix), but he managed to release her without harm.

In the afternoon we moved toward the vintgar gorge and finished before the sunset.

The beauty and the quietness of the Radovna valley impresses me every single year and I hope for many more.

My new role of being a parent took several changes and one of them was less time spent in fishing. Like years before me and Martin went to Bled for two day fishing trip. We started on Radovna river, most of the day on the upper “wild” part and had a really great day. Even if the weather was cloudy with some rain we used dry flies (mostly mayflies) on 14-16 #. The conclusion of the day was that, in general, the fishes were bigger than in other years, thats why we made a toast to the great day. Cheers!

This weekend i went to my “traditional” two fly-fishing day trip to Bled. With my friend Martin decided that this year will go sooner than other years, just to see how is the fish activity with highier water level. A few days before the trip I was a little sceptic because of so much rain that has fallen… My scepticism was soon forgotten.

Like always we started on Radovna river. At first sight we saw that it was at least 10 centimeters higher than last year, so we decided to go fishing almost on the beginning of the fishing area. Fishes were extremely active on the surface, and we soon achieved that big caddis dry flies were the best choice. We spent almost the whole day on the upper part, catching only native brown trouts and I can easily say that I had the best fishing day on Radovna. This really is a Slovenian pearl, and I hope that it will remain forever. I recomend this river to anybody who will or want to fish in Slovenia. It is true that there are not big fish, but the pictures below don´t need a comment.

Whenever I go to Radovna I expect a fully day of memorable memories and my last visit was no exception. Maybe the only exception was that the river has even more native brown trout as usual. I was fishing with my friend Martin, mostly in the upper part of the river. Most of the fishes were caught on dry-fly. Beautiful surroundings made the day even more memorable.

Welcome to try.

It all started in 2008, when I decided to go to Bled to have two-day fishing holidays (first day on Radovna and second on Sava Bohinjka). Of course it was a complete success.

Every year it happened the first weekend of August. No exception was this year. The only thing that changed since the first time was the number of colleagues that have gone with me. This year we were in seven! Maybe a little too much for a small stream like Radovna, but still manageable. Everybody had enough space to fish on every location we stopped.

We started at the beginning of the district. The water level was lower, crystal clear and cold (9 degrees centigrade). We saw a lot of trees in the riverbed (last autumn flood consequence) and less fishes as usual. But more we went downstream more were the catches. Small brownies were becoming more and more frequent on our nymphs.

With midday we changed position and with brownies we have caught also rainbows. Fishes became active on the surface, so nymphs were changed with dry-flies. Some cdc flies were irresistible to more and more fishes.

Hours run quickly and before night we moved to another position. The picture didn´t change, fishes were attacking our flies with  eagerness till we reached the end of the fishing district.

In conclusion I could say that in my point of view the river is 100% pure mind relax, with a lot of fishes and astonishing surroundings. What can a fisherman demand more?

If you are looking a peaceful river with such beautiful surroundings you should go to Radovna river.

This small river is situated in north-western part of Slovenia a few kilometers from lake Bled. A big part of this river lies in Triglav national park in a small but long Radovna valley.

It could be divided in two parts. The upper part represents dreams come true of each fly fisherman. It is 100% natural, with no human intrusion.  Populated only with native brown trout, relaxation this part is absolute brain relaxation. Here you can practice all day dry-fly fishing with great results.  Because of the lower food production of the river, fishes are smaller but in large number.

The lower part is more influenced by humans  (some small dams), but still very attractive to fish on it. The river conclude its journey in a spectacular canyon.

If you want to fish in astonishing surroundings and completely forget all thoughts, this little paradise is waiting for you.
