The Unec or Unica, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful streams in the entire Europe.

This 10 kilometers long karstic river is situated in central part of Slovenia just a few kilometers from the world-famous Postojna cave, the most visited Slovenian attraction. Due to the unique karstic region, it´s main characteristic is that rises, flows and disappears underground on the same field called  “Planinsko polje”. Other, but less known characteristic is, that is formed by the confluence of two rivers (Pivka and Rak) deep in the Planina cave.  Their merge represents the biggest European underground confluence.

After heavy rains the river floods entire field, which become one big lake, otherwise it flows with constant water level. It could be compared with some famous English chalk-streams like Lambourn or river Avon where world-famous fisherman Frank Sawyer was born and fished.

The river proves to be the best fishing ground of a conglomeration of brown trout and grayling which grows longer than 50 centimeters.

It could be divided in two parts. In the upper part (described in fishing licence), you can fish with all fly-fishing patterns, meanwhile in the lower part only dry-fly is allowed. Due to the river clearness the fisherman’s approach and gear must be adequate.

The most spectacular period of fishing season is middle to late spring, when huge number of mayflies rises from the water.
