On second day of my trip to Bled I experienced same heavy grayling activity on the surface, but finding the right fly was very hard. They were feeding with small mayflies through the whole day so I didn´t take much attention to nymphs. In the evening they started to feed with bigger mayflies and then the pure drill begun. The biggest impression made when I caught a big grayling under heavy rain on dry fly. It was amazing!

This year, our fly fishing trip to Bled, took place in the mid June, because we wanted to fish on higher water level. The choice was right!

This year I was fishing with Martin and my father and we had a great day on Radovna river. We mostly fished on the upper part which is situated in Triglav national park. Pure wilderness with marvelous native brown trouts. We started and finished with dry fly tied on our lines. Most of the success was with mayflies tied on hooks #14 and caddis flies tied on #12.

I really suggest to visit Radovna in June when the water level is little higher. It is 100% success.

Hello everyone!

Yes, yes I am still breathing…

One year passes very quickly and here is the report of two days of fly-fishing in Bled.

Like always, with my friend Martin, the trip started on the upper part of Radovna river. The water level was lower than in the last two years, but we still had a great day. We fished upwards with different dry flies, but had most success with caddis flies tied with deer fur on hook 10-12#.

We had a curious situation when Martin accidentally caught a grass snake (Natrix natrix), but he managed to release her without harm.

In the afternoon we moved toward the vintgar gorge and finished before the sunset.

The beauty and the quietness of the Radovna valley impresses me every single year and I hope for many more.

My new role of being a parent took several changes and one of them was less time spent in fishing. Like years before me and Martin went to Bled for two day fishing trip. We started on Radovna river, most of the day on the upper “wild” part and had a really great day. Even if the weather was cloudy with some rain we used dry flies (mostly mayflies) on 14-16 #. The conclusion of the day was that, in general, the fishes were bigger than in other years, thats why we made a toast to the great day. Cheers!

Like always the second day of our Bled fly-fishing trip belong to Sava Bohinjka

The water level was extremely high for fly-fishing, but despite all the fishes managed that we had a really great day. Most of the day I used dry-flies tied with CDC. Until midday the sky was clear, but soon after it become cloudy and started to rain. It rained untill the night, but didn´t influenced the fish activity. It also become very cold so it was like in spring.

As the day went along the flies hatch changed almost every hour but we still managed to have the appropriate flies. As the night approached (with us being all wet) we decided that it was enough for that day…

P.S. We had a funny experience that day. We met a group of very peculiar italian fishermen (with the best equipment), have a few words. After that we sat on a river bank and had a break with Guerila wine and watched them being envious. What a laugh…

This weekend i went to my “traditional” two fly-fishing day trip to Bled. With my friend Martin decided that this year will go sooner than other years, just to see how is the fish activity with highier water level. A few days before the trip I was a little sceptic because of so much rain that has fallen… My scepticism was soon forgotten.

Like always we started on Radovna river. At first sight we saw that it was at least 10 centimeters higher than last year, so we decided to go fishing almost on the beginning of the fishing area. Fishes were extremely active on the surface, and we soon achieved that big caddis dry flies were the best choice. We spent almost the whole day on the upper part, catching only native brown trouts and I can easily say that I had the best fishing day on Radovna. This really is a Slovenian pearl, and I hope that it will remain forever. I recomend this river to anybody who will or want to fish in Slovenia. It is true that there are not big fish, but the pictures below don´t need a comment.

After a short night and delicious breakfast we went to Sava Bohinjka in the district managed by Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia. In the morning the weather was ideal for fly-fishing. Fishes were active on the surface and couldn´t resist our small cdc flies. There was a big swarm of red spinners but the fishes weren´t attracted to them. We caught graylings and rainbow trouts. In fact I was very surprised that the quantity of introduced rainbows was very low, and on the other side, the quantity of grayling much more than last year.

But like in all fairy tales, suddenly changed everything, because it started to rain and become windy. The surface activity ended and dry flies were replaced by nymphs. We decided to change position and also the rain was gone. On nymph I had at least 20 strikes, mostly of them were rainbow (all were about 20 centimeters), but also some grayling. I caught a big rainbow (it seemed natural) and as soon I had it in the net it started to rain again with more intensity. I waited under a bush till it ended and went to the others.

After that we went to the last position and had a chance to catch graylings on dry-fly and rainbows on nymph. And again it started to rain but this time we decided to finish our fly-fishing day and went back home.

I ´m fishing for several years now on Sava Bohinjka and I could say that the water is better now, because they don´t introduce rainbows anymore or is reduced to the minimum.
