This year, our fly fishing trip to Bled, took place in the mid June, because we wanted to fish on higher water level. The choice was right!

This year I was fishing with Martin and my father and we had a great day on Radovna river. We mostly fished on the upper part which is situated in Triglav national park. Pure wilderness with marvelous native brown trouts. We started and finished with dry fly tied on our lines. Most of the success was with mayflies tied on hooks #14 and caddis flies tied on #12.

I really suggest to visit Radovna in June when the water level is little higher. It is 100% success.

After some years I went to Unica river this September. Sunny day with low water first indicated that we would struggle to get a fish, but at the end of the day we counted more than 10 fishes per person. Most of the success came from dry flies tied on hooks 16-20#. We had more success in faster parts of the river where graylings weren´t so demanding. Trough the day I had some line breaks with decent fish on, and so was for Martin. He succeeded to catch a beautiful brown trout of 50 cm. Bigger graylings started to rise only before the dark, and some of them were caught and then released.

I hope to visit this magnificent river as soon as possible.

Hello everyone!

Yes, yes I am still breathing…

One year passes very quickly and here is the report of two days of fly-fishing in Bled.

Like always, with my friend Martin, the trip started on the upper part of Radovna river. The water level was lower than in the last two years, but we still had a great day. We fished upwards with different dry flies, but had most success with caddis flies tied with deer fur on hook 10-12#.

We had a curious situation when Martin accidentally caught a grass snake (Natrix natrix), but he managed to release her without harm.

In the afternoon we moved toward the vintgar gorge and finished before the sunset.

The beauty and the quietness of the Radovna valley impresses me every single year and I hope for many more.

How the time runs! Now it´s november and the fly fishing season 2014 is over. Now is the period for fish to regenerate their energy and focus for the spawn period.

My last day proved again that october is truly the best period for fly fishing. I fished only for few hours in the middle of the day when the sun was warmer. Huge amount of insects on the water surface looked like it was may and not october. Fishes were very active and even the water was very clear you could approach them to a few meters without scare them. To catch them I used a small brown nymph and an F fly. Rainbow trouts and graylings ended in my net and then again in the water when released…

See you next season.IMGP0629

Last day I visited one of the most difficult rivers in Slovenia – Ucja river. This small river is difficult because of it´s almost unreachable position – the river runs through a deep canyon with lots of waterfalls and big stones on the path. The only reachable parts are 2: before it runs into the Soca river and at the border with Italy – we fished this part.

We were fishing upstream and for the whole time it rained moderately. We used nymphs, streamers and also dry flies. Most of the fishes were marble trouts with some hybrids and brown trouts. After some hours of rain the water level started to increase rapidly so we were forced to finish the fishing.

The beauty of this stream is it´s surroundings (you must be physically trained) and it´s inhabbitants with marble trout in forefront. On the opposite, the river is very dangerous, especially if it is raining. For example: we started fishing with a flow of 2 cubic meters per second and finished with 8! All in a few hours.

Suggestion for all who will visit this river: BE CAREFULL!!!
